AI, AI, AI!

Using a template in Adobe Express, I created this flyer at our Broward district summer PD using my favorite new app.

AI, AI, Ai!

It’s been a busy year for me, presenting and attending important and inspiring conferences in the past year.  FETC, FAME, ALA, LIBLearnX, and a few in my district with the Broward Education Foundation.  There has been a steadily increasing buzz about AI - artificial intelligence at all the sessions and keynotes. What did I learn?  We need to be AI literate and teach our students how to use it best. Simply, we need to embrace AI.

Artificial Intelligence is powering many aspects of our lives and will assist us in teaching and learning. AI has guided us for our smart homes, online shopping, navigation, and digital voice, but if you are like me and a bit reluctant because you think you are cheating, it’s time just to start.  Use it for something in your personal life that you have wanted to do and thought you didn’t have time to make it just right.  Perhaps writing a letter or card to a friend, organizing a busy day, or helping make something sound better.  I will self-report; AI made this piece better and did it quicker than I could have.  I almost didn’t include this, but I realize it is relevant and must be included in our FMQ.

Have you tried the generative AI innovations in Adobe Express?  I’ve been exploring generating images and having fun playing and creating with Adobe.  Our learners take to it quickly at school, and it helps me learn even faster.  Check out Adobe Librarian and Creativity Advocate MarthaBongiorno, @mrsbongiornoedu. I met her at FAME2025 at the Digital Learning Hub, and then I was lucky to work with her at FETC during the Librarian Track with Shannon McClintock-Miller, https://www.shannonmcclintockmiller.com/ and Bill Bass, https://billbass.tech/.  If you don’t recognize these names, follow them and learn. It’s inspiring, engaging PD when I need and want it.

We have experts in our FAME group. Ask a colleague.  I suggest asking Kathleen Daniels @kathleenrdaniels from Hillsborough County Public Schools. I attended her session on AI at the 2024 FAME conference. Her presentation motivated me to take it seriously, and I began searching for more information: artificial intelligence ideas, ways to improve teaching and learning, and productivity.  Before Kat’s session, I listened to teachers complaining about students who used AI for their assignments, and they feared their students were cheating.  That happens in university settings; they must engage with the students in their learning and assess comprehension using different strategies. We, librarians, teachers, and professors, must engage in conversations to extract understanding from our learners.
